Why should I pray the Rosary?

The rosary is a special set of prayers to God that help us to remember the most important events in the lives of Jesus and Mary.

These events are called Mysteries. There are 20 Mysteries in all: 5 are called The Joyful Mysteries, 5 are called The Luminous Mysteries, 5 are called The Sorrowful Mysteries, and 5 are called The Glorious Mysteries. These Mysteries are stories about the lives of Jesus and Mary and each group of mysteries is called a decade.

How do I pray the Rosary?

  • Hold the crucifix in your hand and say the Apostles Creed.
  • On the first big bead, say the Our Father one time.
  • On each of the next three small beads, say the Hail Mary.
  • On the next large bead, say one Glory Be, the Fatima prayer. On same large bead announce the First Mystery and think about it, then say one Our Father.
  • On each of the next ten small beads, say a Hail Mary.
  • Then say one Glory Be, and the Fatima prayer.
  • On the next large bead, announce the next mystery and continue in the same way until each of the Five Mysteries in that group are said.
  • After all prayers are said say one HAIL! HOLY QUEEN.

Our Father

who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary

full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be

to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Fatima Prayer

O my Jesus: forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven; especially those in most need of Thy mercy.

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
